Altowise Griffin

June 22, 1953 — June 16, 2025

Concord

Altowise Griffin, age 71, of Concord, NC, passed away on June 16, 2025. Born on June 22, 1953, in Bainbridge, GA, Altowise was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Griffin and Flossie West Griffin. She was preceded in death by her elder brother, Ronald Griffin.

Altowise leaves behind a loving family, including her son, Dwayne Griffin; grandchildren Kiara Hodges and Travon Griffin; great-grandchildren Kylen and Knori Hodges; nephews Keith Boyd and Darrly Canty, and niece Tawanna Turner, as well as a host of grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Altowise grew up in Newark, New Jersey, on South 12th Street, where she made lifelong friendships. She attended West Side High School, where she was an active cheerleader for the Rough Riders. After graduating, she gave birth to her son Dwayne, whom she loved and adored. She poured all her love, time, and attention into raising her son, and you could find her cheering him on at football games from Pop Warner through high school. Altowise was a woman of great pride and integrity who believed that hard work and dedication equal success. She dedicated over 35 years of service to the United States Postal Service (USPS). At 55, she retired in Concord, NC, to be closer to family and enjoy the southern way of life. She lived a vibrant and active life, walking five miles daily, participating in aerobics, and enjoying line dancing with friends. She was an avid traveler with an adventurous spirit; she explored every continent except Antarctica. Altowise was a voracious reader, often completing three to five books weekly.

Her sweet tooth was legendary, and she delighted in desserts, often adjusting her day to savor a special treat, always making time for life’s small treasures. She lived a purposeful life that her heart desired, experiencing different cultures, art, history worldwide, and collecting memorabilia.

Altowise preferred not to say goodbye, so in her honor, we say, “See you for now.”
