Corey Grant-Sutherland

November 18, 1996 — January 20, 2024

Richmond

Corey Talmedge Grant-Sutherland, born on November 18, 1996, sadly passed away on January 20, 2024. He was a strong-minded and independent individual with a private and sometimes guarded introverted nature. Corey cared deeply for his loved ones and was a loving and caring member of his family. A deep thinker who believed in God, Corey sought strength and healing through a spiritual connection. He would pray and tell family about the ones God answered for him. In recent years, Corey sowed into his faith, got baptized, and developed a forgiving heart.

Born in Stamford, CT, Corey discovered his passion for cooking at a young age and aspired to become a chef one day. His coworkers often spoke of how patrons adored him. Corey truly found joy and fulfillment in sharing a meal with his family and friends, using those moments to open up and connect on a deeper level.

Music was another passion that brought Corey immense happiness. He loved to sing with those he felt the deepest connections with, finding solace and expression through music. Those closest to Corey also got to see a silly side that was hilarious to see, goofy faces and everything. Additionally, Corey had a distinct sense of style; he had his own unique way of dressing, never one to follow the crowd. He had a charming persona that left a lasting impression on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was known to be smooth, calm and quiet He never wanted to attract attention, unless it was on a day he felt like turning heads with an upscale outfit.

At the age of 5, Corey was diagnosed with type I diabetes. Despite facing numerous challenges along this journey, Corey displayed tremendous resilience during each hospital visit. In recent years, he dedicated himself to understanding and managing his diabetes, demonstrating his determination to overcome any obstacles that came his way.

Corey's kindness extended beyond his immediate family circle. He cherished the memories shared of his maternal grandmother. His passing leaves behind grief-stricken parents Donald Sutherland, Paulina Sutherland, Ruth Grant, as well as devoted siblings Matthew Grant, Donald 'DJ' Sutherland (Chelsea), Shatara Grant, LaLa Grant, Monique Dorsey (Owen). Corey also leaves behind two nephews and five nieces, who were a source of joy and inspiration to him. Additionally, his grandmother Mable Chisholm mourns the loss of her beloved grandson.
