David Earl Byers, affectionately known as Dave, passed away on July 22, 2026, in Mooresville, North Carolina. Born on August 13, 1951, in Sheridan, Michigan, Dave’s seventy-four years were marked by unwavering devotion to family, a strong faith, and heartfelt service to others.

Dave grew up in Michigan, the beloved son of the late David Lewis Byers and Mary Louise Dell Byers. Throughout his life, he embraced the values they instilled in him—integrity, kindness, and a commitment to helping those in need. Dave’s sense of humor and love for joking were constants, endearing him to all who knew him and filling every gathering with laughter.

A devoted husband, Dave shared many cherished years with his wife, Connie. Their partnership was foundational to his life, and together they built a home centered on love, respect, and faith. As a father, he leaves behind a profound legacy in his children, Nicole and Ryan, who both felt their father’s guidance, encouragement, and affection at every stage of their lives.

To his grandchildren—Wil and Madi Canipe and Abby, Emma and Luke Byers—Dave was lovingly known as “Papa”. Being their grandfather was one of his proudest accomplishments, and he poured boundless energy and joy into his role. Whether attending their events, sharing his wisdom, or simply delighting in their company, Dave’s presence as their Papa will remain a cherished memory and lasting influence in their lives.

Dave’s kind heart reached far beyond his family. He found purpose and fulfillment in service, most notably impacting his community through his work with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) South Iredell chapter. Dave founded the SHP South Iredell chapter in 2019 and Dave’s dedication to this cause was remarkable; he and his team personally delivered 1,500 beds to children in need, ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor. His passion for woodworking shone not only through these acts of generosity but also in the care he put into crafting each bed.

An unwavering follower of Christ, Dave’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He loved the Lord deeply and drew strength and inspiration from his relationship with God. His faith guided his every action and fed his devotion not only to his family and friends, but also to those he served. Dave’s warm spirit and steadfast values left a mark on everyone he met.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Connie Byers; his daughter, Nicole Byers Canipe (Jeremy); his son, Ryan Byers (Gwen); his grandchildren, Wil and Madi Canipe and Abby, Emma and Luke Byers; his brother, Duane Byers (Lise), as well as a host of cousins and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his father, David Lewis Byers, and his mother, Mary Louise Dell Byers.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in remembering Dave’s life. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Storyhill Church, 490 S Main St, Davidson, NC. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., also at Storyhill Church. A private burial service will take place following the service.
