Gary Floyd Livingston, born on December 28, 1951, in St. Clair, Michigan, passed away on August 8, 2026, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, at the age of 74. His life was marked by unwavering dedication, deep-seated values, and a profound commitment to his loved ones and country.

Gary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. His career in the military was distinguished by exceptional leadership, discipline, and integrity. His colleagues considered him a mentor and a friend. Held a strong moral code. These same ideals guided Gary throughout the rest of his life.

After his distinguished military service, Gary worked for two decades in logistics with TACOM. He was regarded among his coworkers not only as a consummate professional, but also as a friend and mentor. Gary had an innate ability to connect with those around him, offering guidance generously and sharing his wealth of experience through stories, for which he was well known.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was a man rich in character and personal interests. He was tough but fair, a stickler for punctuality, and was well-known for never being late. He found joy in simple pleasures—he loved to clean his car, was an avid reader, and relished his daily ritual of reading newspapers over a cup of coffee. Fishing trips to Canada were a cherished tradition, reflecting his appreciation for nature and time spent among friends and family. Those close to him remember how he immersed himself in talk radio, always keeping up with the world and pondering its ideas. Above all, Gary’s storytelling was legendary—he seemed to have a story to suit every occasion and a unique style to delivering stories.

Gary’s life was most richly defined by his dedication to his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 28 years, Carol Livingston, and children: Gary (Laurie) Livingston Jr., Gregory Livingston, and Aaron Livingston; as well as step-sons Matthew (Terri) Hartwick, Bill Hartwick, Richard (Jessica) Hartwick, and Erik (Sarah) Hartwick. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, whose lives have been shaped by his love and example. His siblings Mark Scott, Randy (Rick) Mordue, Kenny (Pam) Laatz, Janet Livingston, and David Foster also mourn his passing and honor his memory.

Gary is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, April Livingston, his granddaughter Stephanie Livingston, grandson Jerry Livingston, and his siblings Jeff Laatz, Diana Livingston, and Corey Livingston.

Gary Floyd Livingston’s life was a tapestry woven from loyalty, honor, and an abiding sense of right and wrong. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and steadfast love for his family, friends, and country.

An interment service will be held on October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI, where Gary’s life and service will be honored and remembered.

His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.
