Herman Frank Lamb

Aug 26, 1933 — Oct 30, 2026

Charlotte, NC

Herman Lamb passed away on October 30, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by his family.

Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Herman grew up and spent most of his life in South Jersey. In 2006, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to be closer to his family, especially his new grandchildren, who quickly became the center of his world.

Herman was preceded in death by his wife Marcella Lamb (Hickman), his Parents Frank Lamb and Bertha Ireland (Banning) and his sister Gladys Lake (Lamb).

He is survived by his sister, Heather Holland (Lamb), whom he fondly called his protector when they were children; his daughter, Tina Rakes (Mike Rakes); his son, Timothy Lamb (Maria Lamb); his four beloved grandchildren, Hayley Rakes, Tessa Lamb, Landon Rakes, and Thomas Lamb; and many nieces and nephews.

Herman was especially proud of his four intelligent and talented grandchildren: Hayley, Tessa, Landon and Thomas. He found great joy in watching them excel in whatever they pursued, whether it was theater, swim team, cross country, robotics, or simply a board game played with him. He was always their biggest fan.

He loved watching their faces light up as they opened the many Christmas gifts that he wrapped with way too much tape. He also enjoyed giving them gifts that he had misplaced months earlier and happily rediscovered.

Shortly before moving to North Carolina, Herman became a devoted Carolina Panthers fan, making sure to watch every game. Win or lose, he was proud to support his team. Keep Pounding!

Herman had a creative side and enjoyed writing poetry and stories about his life, preserving memories and experiences through his words.

He also had a love for gardening, especially growing vegetables and flowers. One of his most meaningful traditions was making a weekly trip to the rose bush he had planted for his wife. Even after her passing, he continued to visit it, making sure she had a couple of fresh flowers whenever they were in bloom. It was a small but beautiful expression of a love that never faded.

In keeping with Herman's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. However, he did request that a Celebration of Life be held at a future date. Details will be shared when they become available.

In lieu of flowers, Herman would have loved for you to plant some in your own yard, so that whenever you look at them, you can think of him.
