John Joseph White of Harrisburg, NC passed away on June 6, 2022 at the age of 80 years old. John was born in Paterson, NJ on July 20, 1941 to Jack and Marie White. He graduated from St. John’s High School in 1958. Back then, John was known for his coppery-red hair and could be found playing ball with his buddies or being a “brat” to his younger sisters. After studying at Seton Hall University he served in the NJ Army National Guard and worked in the textile industry.
He later met Helen Kowalski and they married in 1966, moved to Chattanooga, TN, and went on to have three children. There, he partnered the start-up company Poly Chem, in which he sold dyes and chemicals to the carpet industry of Dalton, GA. John and Helen were blessed with twenty-five years of marriage until her untimely death in 1991. After living in Hilton Head,
SC for 15 years with his second wife, Faye Davenport White, they moved to Harrisburg, NC in 2008 to be closer to children and his 3 grandchildren.
John enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, fine food and wine, vintage cars, and being with his children and grand-children, with whom he loved to relive old memories. He will be fondly remembered for his love of God, the USA, and being a friend to all of those he encountered along the way.
He is survived by his children: John Patrick White—Durham, NC, Maureen Heim (Mike Heim)— Raleigh, NC, and Betsy Navel—Harrisburg, NC; his grandchildren: Michael Navel and Emily Navel of Harrisburg, and Daniel Heim of Raleigh; and his siblings: Mary Fox (AZ), and Kathy Clark(AZ).
