Karen Critten-Brown, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her family, passed away on January 29, 2026, in Pineville, North Carolina. Born on March 19, 1963, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Karen was known as the strongest one in the family, embodying love and resilience that held her loved ones together through life's ups and downs.
Throughout her life, Karen had an undeniable passion for creating lasting memories, particularly with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a vibrant spirit who enjoyed playing bingo, indulging in scratch-off lottery tickets, and sharing joyful moments of dancing. Her warmth and infectious enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Karen’s family includes her significant other, Edward Allen, and her children Tiffany Critten, Tyrin Conners, Javon Conners, Manndisa Richardson, Randy Critten, Quadir Critten, Saabirah Critten, Mahogany Critten, and Jamal Thomas. She was not only a devoted mother but also a proud grandmother to a host of grandchildren and a great-grandmother to Baby LJ. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Critten; her brother, Nicholas Critten; her sister, Cheryl Critten; her cousin, John Laster; and her parents, William E. Critten and Bessena Critten Webster.
A funeral service to honor Karen Critten-Brown was held on January 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Islamic Society of Charlotte followed by burial at The Charlotte Muslim Cemetery.
