Louvenia Jean Barber, born on September 23, 1932, in Seneca, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She lived a vibrant life defined by her passion for beauty, community service, and family connections. Louvenia spent many years successfully owning a beauty salon, where she not only provided services but also cultivated lasting friendships with her clients.
Throughout her journey, Louvenia was characterized by her loyalty and kindness. She was a devoted friend and supporter of the underprivileged, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support through her generosity. Those who crossed her path quickly grew to love and appreciate her warmth and compassionate spirit.
Louvenia's interests extended beyond her career. As a member of the Eastern Star in New Jersey, she demonstrated her commitment to community service and charitable efforts, notably as a dedicated donor to cancer research. Her love for animals was well-known, and she made family a top priority, nurturing bonds with her loved ones that created an enduring legacy.
She is survived by her sister, Henrietta Johnson; her brother, Sylvester Hammond; her niece and goddaughter, Tanya James; her nephew, Raymond Johnson Jr.; her nieces, Tear Johnson; her nephews, Harry Easley and Douglas Hammond; her stepson, Alvin Barber Jr.; her special friend, Nadine Jones; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.
Louvenia was predeceased by her husband, Alvin Barber; her sisters, Dorothy Easley and Ola Hammond; her father, Henry Hammond; and her mother, Julia Mae Walker Hammond.
The legacy of Louvenia Jean Barber will be celebrated on August 6, 2025, with a viewing at New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange, NJ from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM-11:30 AM. The burial will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ at 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow later that day at Llewellyn Parq- Bar Grill in West Orange, NJ from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
