Mary Kathryn Peterson

Kathryn Peterson, born on October 8, 1954, in Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Concord, North Carolina. She was a vibrant and creative soul whose talents in design brought joy to many, allowing her to express her outgoing and friendly spirit in every aspect of her life.

Kathryn was known for treating others like family, embodying warmth and compassion that made her a cherished friend to those who knew her. Her love for animals was evident throughout her life, as she embraced both the companionship and joy that they brought her.

She is survived by her beloved son, Trey Peterson and his life partner, Ericka Beam; her two granddaughters, Emma and Ella Peterson; and her sister, Beth Shoaf, and her husband Robert. Mary also leaves behind a host of friends who were enriched by her kindness and creativity.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her father, William Joseph May; her mother, Sarah Jane Glascock May; her stepmother, Joyce May; and love of her life, Edgar Royo.

A burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston, Virginia, on Friday, December 19, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM.

Kathryn will be remembered for her creativity, her love of life, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know.
