Rose Marie Coleman, 86, of Harrisburg, North Carolina, passed away on March 14, 2026, following a long-term decline in health.
Rose was an avid golfer who spent many years playing courses throughout the Tri-County area of New York and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Over the course of her lifetime, she proudly recorded three holes-in-one.
Born on March 1, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ester Colebert. Rose grew up in Duke Center, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Otto-Eldred High School in 1957 and later earned her degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1961.
Early in her career, Rose worked briefly as a professional diver in Florida before beginning her lifelong career in education. She joined Alfred-Almond Central School, where she worked as a Physical Education teacher and athletic coach. After 30 years of dedicated service, she retired in 1995.
In retirement, Rose enjoyed many years of golfing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Hornell, New York. While living in Hornell, she was an active member of the American Legion, Eagles, and Moose Lodge. Her favorite pastimes included golf, tennis, playing cards, and sharing her quick wit and jokes with friends and family.
For the past eight years, she has lived in Harrisburg, North Carolina, near her son, Jim Coleman, and his family.
Rose was preceded in death by her life partner, George Doll; her brother, Harry Colebert; her sisters, Ardena Starr and Joan McBride; her sister-in-law, Madeline Colebert; her brothers-in-law, Sid Starr and Skip McBride; her nieces, Cindy Starr, Mary Jo McBride, and Lisa Isadore; and her nephew, Michael McBride.
She is survived by her brother, Donald Colebert (Barb) of Duke Center, Pennsylvania; her children, Jim Coleman (Gloria Elliott) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mary Lynne Fernandez (Pedro) of Louisville, Colorado; and her grandchildren, Andy Coleman, Evan Coleman, and Lauren Coleman of Harrisburg, North Carolina. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Duke Center, Pennsylvania, during the summer of 2026.
