Janie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a great friend to those she came in contact.

Shirley Jane (Patrick) Buchanan of Denver, North Carolina went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

She was surrounded by her loving family at the time. She was known affectionately as "Janie" by all those who knew her. Janie was born March 1, 1949 in Bristol, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joe H. Patrick and Helen H. (Dye) Patrick and a brother Joe Patrick. She is survived by her husband William Roger Buchanan, sons Chad Mathew Buchanan and wife Cristal of Waxhaw, NC and Jason Neal Buchanan and wife Katherine of Huntersville, NC, four grandchildren Hannah Grace, William Peyton, Brady Matthew, and Liam Joseph, two sisters Janice Gorley and husband Jimmy and Kimberly Hutton all of Bristol, TN and a brother Donald Patrick and wife Sheila of Bluff City, TN. She is survived also by several nieces and nephews.

Janie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a great friend to those she came in contact. Her husband's career required her to relocate several times making homes in Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina, and in The Netherlands. She always made friends easily and was an encourager to her family and others. She always said “if God opens the door you have to walk through it." Her positive influence to family and friends will always be with us.

In her younger years Janie enjoyed sports activities like tennis and golf especially playing with her husband and friends. Her health prevented that in later years but she always took the opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren. She loved to travel dragging her husband on several cruises and vacation spots around the world. She always enjoyed traveling with her husband on business trips when it was possible.

Janie and her husband have been actively involved in Hickory Grove Baptist Church since moving to the Denver, NC location in 2019 and much of her life and activities were centered around that relationship. A memorial/celebration of life will be held at the Mallard Creek Rd. Campus of Hickory Grove on Saturday September 19 beginning with visitation at 1:00PM and the service to follow. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in Janie's name.
