William Carlton Highfill, Jr., 69, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 28, 2025, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, following a 5-year illness.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Teresa Brown Highfill, and his two sons, Justin Highfill and wife Emily, Jordan Highfill and wife Michela, and granddaughter Laela Joy Highfill. Bill has two surviving sisters, Shirley Highfill of Columbia, MD, and Lou Ann Mosack of Austin, TX, and two surviving half-brothers, Tim Murray, and Denny Murray of Graham, NC.
Bill was born on January 26, 1956, in Greensboro, NC, to William Carlton Highfill and wife Hazel Wilkins Highfill, of Pleasant Garden, NC. He graduated from NC State with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering, in 1979.
His lifelong passion for flying which began in his senior year of high school, led to a career as a pilot for Piedmont Airlines, USAirways, and finally to retirement with American Airlines as a captain.
He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and most of all disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am. on January 12, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Mallard Creek, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church and Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
