Merline Ruth Ambrosley

Merline Ruth Ambrosley was born on December 1, 1931 to Charley Campbell and Virginia Sinclair Campbell in Jamaica, West Indies.

Driven by the pursuit of a better life and opportunities for her family, she migrated to the U.S. in 1970.  Merline’s goal of reuniting her family in the United States was realized as she held down two jobs to raise funds.  Merline managed to bring her six children from Jamaica to the United States, and lived in the Bronx, New York, a place she called home for more than 50 years.

Merline worked at Tiffany & Co until her retirement.  After her retirement from Tiffany’s, she worked as a home health aide providing care for the elderly at several health care agencies.

Merline always enjoyed cooking, baking and reading her bible.  She always made sure her family was well fed and taken care of.  During the holidays, she made sure that everyone got a pan of rum cake and a bottle of sorrel to take home. Her love and unwavering support for her family constantly caused her to put her personal needs aside in order to satisfy the needs of her family.  

Merline Ambrosley was known to many as a peaceful and loving individual. She was defined by God and anchored by her love for family. Merline never passed up on the opportunity to express her love to her family. She would always close a conversation or encounter with a peaceful “I love you my daughter”, “I love you my son” or “Give my love to ...”

Merline’s approach to life and how she related to everyone around her was unique.  She always found a way to shed a positive light on the most challenging situations or issues she came across.  She would often pray for people that most folks would rush to judge or view as adversaries due to unbecoming acts or behavior.  

On Friday, February 21, 2020, God called Merline home to rest.  Though predeceased by her husband, Rodney, her sister Thelma Martin and son, Donald Ambersley, she leaves to celebrate her life and spirit, her sons John Ambersley and Nigel Ambersley; daughters, Evelyn Ambersley, AnnMarie Moore, and Michelle Ambrosely; grandchildren, Omare Ambersley, Trenell Ambersley, Bridgett Buwee, Jamila Ambersley, Mahlek Pothemont, Emily Francis, Chelsea Fraser, Calvin Fraser, Darren Fraser, Jhanna Moore, Jiovanni Moore, Jeremy Moore, Safirya Ambersley, Telani Ambersley, Donella Ambersley; and great grandchildren, Ahren Ambersley, Ayla Parker, Azryan Buwee, August Buwee, Paige Buwee, and Nova Fraser, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Another angel has risen to look down upon us.  Merline, you shall never be forgotten.
